IUB Aims To Become First 'COVID-19 Free Campus': VC

BAHAWALPUR: The Islamia University of Bahawalpur faculty and students have reiterated their commitment to making the university a 'COVID-19 Free' educational institute.  

A ceremony was held in the main auditorium for this purpose. Irfan Ali Kathia, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bahawalpur, Muhammad Iqbal Makwal, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Health Authority and Dr Asif Naveed Ranjha were present on occasion, alongside teachers and students. Prof. Dr Athar Mahboob, Vice-Chancellor of the university, spoke on occasion, flanked by Prof. Dr Naveed Akhtar, the president.

“Vaccination of all teachers and students would be completed by the end of this month. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur was the first hepatitis free university globally, and now it will also be one of the first to eradicate COVID-19 on campus.” The VC promised.

He further thanked Irfan Ali, the DC, for his cooperation with the university beyond his responsibilities, noting the District Health Authority efforts. Dr Athar emphasized the responsibility everyone has to complete their vaccinations and how their message should reach 46,000 families through students. More than 6000 vaccines will be provided to the university in a day, and the university will stand by every student until they are completely immunized. After everyone will be vaccinated, he promised a big celebration in light of the achievement.

Iqbal Makwal, the CEO, said that Islamia University, Bahawalpur, would become the first COVID-19 Free University in the country. Dr Asif added that that 70 per cent of students and more than 90 per cent of teachers and staff had been vaccinated. Data is being compiled in this regard, with up to 20,000 people already included in said compilation.

According to the Vice-Chancellor’s vision and the district administration’s cooperation, a 100% vaccination target will be achieved in the next few weeks.
