BOISE:  Idaho's state Senate voted to enact a six-week abortion ban, modelled after a Texas law that prohibits abortions before many women are aware they are pregnant.

Idaho is now on the verge of becoming the second state to enact a six-week abortion ban.

Senate Bill 1309 would then move to the Idaho House of Representatives, where abortion rights organisations anticipate it will pass. Republican Gov. Brad Little's spokesperson declined to comment on whether he would sign the bill, stating that the office does not comment on pending legislation but recently restated his opposition to abortion in general to the Idaho Spokesman-Review. The bill would become effective 30 days after it has been signed into law.

According to sources, many individuals do not realise they are pregnant until six weeks into the pregnancy. According to 2019 data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately two-thirds of abortions in Idaho occur after six weeks of pregnancy. So if this gets approved, abortions are likely to be reduced.
