PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber targeted a Shia mosque in Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar neighbourhood and detonated his bomb, leaving at least 56 people dead and 194 injured.

Mohammad Asim, a spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), expressed some injured people are in critical condition.

Initial reports stated that two attackers were involved in the assault. The mosque in the Qissa Khwani Bazaar neighbourhood of the city was attacked by a lone gunman wearing a black shalwar kameez, according to surveillance footage.

Before he entered the building, he opened fire on police officers stationed outside the main entrance. In addition, the assailant shot at a bystander who attempted to stop him and gained entry to the mosque, where people had congregated for Friday prayers, before setting off an explosion.
