Three officials suspended after measles claims six lives in Khanewal 

KHANEWAL: Taking notice of the deaths of six children in Kabirwala tehsil of Khanewal district, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir has suspended three health officers from service for concealing measles cases.

Measles cases are on the rise in Punjab, with six children succumbing to the disease in Kabirwala.

In a statement he said that 48 measles cases were reported in Kabirwala, but the deputy district health officer failed to report them, adding that those attempting to hide such cases will be apprehended.

The minister suspended CEO Health Khanewal Dr. Abdul Majeed, DHO Khanewal, and DDHO Tehsil Kabirwala have been suspended, and proceedings have been initiated against them under the PEEDA Act.

This year, Khanewal has seen 190 suspected measles cases, of which 17 were confirmed.

On the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, provincial ministers Khawaja Imran Nazir and Khawaja Salman Rafique visited Kabirwala.
