KARACHI: Young students from matriculation/intermediate and O/A levels from various educational institutions were awarded certificates at a ceremony marking the conclusion of Batch 57, Winter Session, of the SIUT’s week-long community service initiative -- Students Volunteer Program -- at the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT).

Initiated by SIUT in 2006, the program aims to empower students to help out the marginal communities in society.

An orientation session was held on the first day, where participants and their parents were briefed on the diverse activities scheduled throughout the week. The session extensively covered the 'Philosophy of SIUT' and provided insights into the comprehensive range of departments and services offered by SIUT.

The mission statement, emphasizing 'Free Quality Medical Treatment for All with Dignity & Compassion Irrespective of their Caste, Color, Creed, Gender, and Religious Beliefs,' was underscored.

The program featured medical, social, motivational, and ethical lectures. Interactive hands-on sessions included vital signs measurement training for nursing, skills labs for urology procedures demonstrations, CPR/resuscitation training, and an engaging visit to witness live robotic surgery in the operation theater.

Participants had the opportunity to explore different wards, interact with pediatric urology/nephrology patients, including those undergoing dialysis and transplantation. The activities included games, coloring books, painting, storytelling, and more.

Parents expressed their perspectives on the program, describing it as highly informative and motivating, resulting in a visible positive change in their children.

In recognition of their participation, the students were presented with certificates and gifts by SIUT.
