Pakistani Doctors globally deemed as inadequate: PMA

KARACHI- A news conference was organized by Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), where the General Secretary, Dr Qaiser Sajjad, alongside other office bearers addressed the media personnel.

Dr Sajjad pointed out how medical education is rapidly deteriorating in our country, due to which substandard doctors are being produced, resulting in the formation of a poor healthcare delivery system. He mentioned how some of our medical colleges did not even have well qualified faculty.

Concerns were raised when it was revealed that patients across Pakistan have been suffering due to the compromised state of medical facilities, while countries around the world have stopped accepting our doctors due to their poor training.

Dr Qaiser Sajjad stated,“Our team will work together to get the PMDC bills passed by the parliament, so that the present status of chaos and confusion is resolved as soon as possible. Universities, especially those imparting medical education, have mushroomed in the past 15 years but without planning and proper legislation.”

He also added that PMDC should mention the names and qualifications of faculty members of each medical college and university on their website.

He further informed that there were 30 medical universities and 158 medical colleges in Pakistan; 81 in Punjab, 42 in Sindh, 28 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 03 in Balochistan, and 04 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

PMA has been demanding a ban on government officials going abroad to get medical attention, and that they should visit public hospitals, which most probably will help in improving the state of our healthcare system.

Expressing grave concern over the increasing use of illegal and harmful drug substances at educational institutions, the PMA office-bearers requested the Government of Pakistan to act promptly, and control this growing menace.
