Press Release: Eye diagnostics innovator i-Optics, announces new Cassini Corneal Analysis functionality designed to measure both anterior and posterior astigmatism, providing refractive-cataract and cornea surgeons with a Total Corneal Astigmatism (TCA) measurement. Previous clinical studies have demonstrated that posterior corneal astigmatism could be a factor in generating unexpected postoperative outcomes.
1 Cassini provides critical information to properly select the power and position of Toric intraocular lenses (IOLs), as well as surgical planning for arcuate and limbal relaxing incisions.
Cassini uses patented multi-colored LED point-to-point ray tracing to provide a GPS-like analysis of the cornea along with high-resolution images utilized for surgical guidance. Recent clinical studies have demonstrated the performance of Cassini anterior corneal steep axis repeatability of less than 3 degrees.2 This capability has led many of the top surgeons in the USA and International markets to choose Cassini as their preferred corneal diagnostic device for refractive-cataract surgery planning.
Douglas D. Koch, MD, professor and the Allen, Mosbacher, and Law chair in ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, commented that “Cassini has proven to be a valuable tool in providing accurate and repeatable data for planning toric IOL procedures. This new software functionality brings us a significant step further in evaluating the true total astigmatism of each patient’s eye.”
“We are excited that Cassini and our unique LED technology continues to advance corneal analysis and make a critical contribution to the development of premium refractive-cataract surgery,” says Jeroen Cammeraat, CEO at i-Optics.
The company plans on making the total corneal astigmatism release commercially available in September of this year.
About i-Optics
i-Optics pioneers smart and superior eye diagnosis solutions that are affordable, fast and user- friendly for eye care providers worldwide to serve their patients best. Its innovations include:
•EasyScan – A breakthrough, zero-dilation retinal imaging system that uses compact scanning laser ophthalmoscope (cSLO) technology to diagnose retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy,age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma.
•EasyScan Three Minute Eye Care Test – A full service program for opticians to differentiate their dispensary. The program creates a unique consumer experience that allows the optician to differentiate from competition and boost revenues.
•EyePrevent – An effective and cost-efficient retinal disease screening service for diabetic and other patients to help prevent vision loss.
•Cassini – A first-of-its-kind Corneal Shape Analyzer based on Color LED Technology. Cassini measures the true axis and magnitude of corneal astigmatism and is essential for premium cataract surgical intraocular lens planning. Cassini completes the premium cataract- refractive platform.
