KARACHI: A human catastrophe of a serious nature is prevailing in the country. According to a rough estimate, an estimated 150,000 people die every year due to organ failure. The unavailability of organs is to blame for the rising death toll.

The most commonly required organs include kidneys, liver, and heart. To focus on the plight and misery of such patients, the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) arranged a meeting where hundreds of patients who have no donors assembled to voice their concerns. Medical experts, social welfare officers, and others who deal with such matters briefed the media about the suffering of the affected patients and discussed remedial steps that call for a deceased organ donation program in the country.

Keeping in view this catastrophic situation, the role of the national media is essential in creating awareness of the deceased organ program.
