Karachi Con of PIMA to start from Saturday

Prof Abdullah Muttaqi, President of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, Karachi, has said that the biannual "Karachi Con" is starting on Saturday in which senior professors, vice-chancellors and young doctors from all over Karachi will participate. 

He shared these views during a press conference held at Karachi Press Club on Friday. Vice president PIMA Karachi, Dr Asim Jafari, members of the Working Council, Prof Sanowar, Dr Zafar Iqbal and Dr Shoaib Akram were also present on occasion. 

Previously, this conference by Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) was held every two years. Still, The conference could not be held during the Corona epidemic, so now four years later, the conference will initiate on Saturday morning at a local hotel in Karachi

Dr Muttaqi said that before the conference, 12 pre-con workshops have also been organized in almost all major medical institutes of the city. Topics of the conference include medical and research, medical ethics, and quality control. 

Thematic talk of the conference will be delivered by well-known surgeons and motivational speaker Dr Jawed Iqbal in the plenary session on day 1 of the conference. In addition, PIMA Central President Prof Khabib Shahid will be especially present from Lahore. 

Karachi Con PIMA is dedicated to Dr Tahir Shamsi

He said that this conference is dedicated to Dr Tahir Shamsi, a member of PIMA and a well-known haematologist. The inaugural session of "Karachi Con" will be held on 4th June at 5 Pm in which Dr Tahir Shamsi will be paid tribute. 

Dr Asim Jaffery said that a session would be held for the services of doctors, paramedical staff, and nurses who had rendered services during the Corona Outbreak, in which tributes would be paid to the front line workers. 

He said that, like every time during the conference, a career guidance seminar for young doctors had been organized in which students of medical colleges and house officers from all over the city would participate. 

He said that women sessions for female doctors would also be held on both the days of Karachi Con, in which Dr Naveed Butt, Central President of PIMA Women from Islamabad, would be especially present. The issues arising due to the extended duty of female doctors will be discussed under the title of "Flexible working hours". 

There will also be a discussion on balance between professional life and home life. Female journal practitioners, consultants, psychiatrists, postgraduate trainees, and paramedic staff will discuss their experiences. 

Dr Asim Jafari said that a scientific session on the emerging field of emergency medicine has also been organized at the conference, and a special section will also be organized for General practitioners.
