KARACHI- Sindh Government is starting evening OPD services at Sindh’s largest teaching hospital, known as, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
The CHK administration has finalized all arrangements to launch second shift OPD services in institution on the directives of Secretary Health Sindh Dr Fazlullah Pechuho. Similarly, first evening OPD in Sindh Government Hospital Korangi was started a week ago by Secretary Health Dr Fazlullah Pechuho.
Medical superintendent, CHK, Dr Muhammad Taufiq, said starting second shift OPD is continuation in the same direction to improve the health services provided in the government hospitals. He informed that evening OPD services begin from 03:00 PM and continue till 08:00 PM at Civil Hospital Karachi where medicines, surgical, pediatric, gynecology and other OPD facilities will be provided to visiting patients on the patron morning OPD.
He said medicines, x-ray and other diagnostics facilities will also be available for visitor in evening OPD. The introduction of second shift OPD would help ease the suffering of the sick. He said the idea of evening OPD will help to reduce the burden on day shift and facilitate the patients in better way.
He further said government and private sector employees especially working class largely benefits from second shift of OPD in government hospitals.
It was pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister Sindh has declared emergency in health sector and health department has taken a number of initiatives that include hiring doctors against vacant positions following the CM's announcement in August 2016. The acute shortage of healthcare practitioners in the hospitals was not only causing inconvenience to patients but also putting an extra load of work on the doctors who are available.
