KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has issued a strong condemnation against the issuance of arrest warrants for 267 employees of the Sindh health department by returning officer (RO), PC-110 South, over their alleged failure to report for their election duties, terming the action unjust and unreasonable.

Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Honorary Secretary General of the PMA (Centre), expressed grave concern over the issuance of arrest warrants, stating that such measures are disproportionate and unfair. He called upon the relevant authorities to promptly revoke the warrants against healthcare professionals.

Dr Shoro urged authorities to refrain from assigning election duties to healthcare providers, citing concerns about the potential strain on an already burdened healthcare system in Sindh.

Highlighting the commitment of healthcare professionals to serving the public, Dr Shoro stressed the need for respect and appreciation for their tireless efforts. He called for a fair and just resolution of the issue, considering the challenging circumstances faced by healthcare workers.

He appealed to the government and relevant authorities to prioritize the safety, security, and well-being of healthcare professionals, particularly amid the ongoing challenges and called for supporting and facilitating them in their essential roles to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services.
