Karachi: Founder of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) Dr Ruth Pfau said here that though the elimination of leprosy is being achieved successfully in Pakistan, the elimination is not the end of leprosy as there are many challenges in terms of physical and social rehabilitation which will go on even in the post elimination phase.

Achievement of gradual elimination of leprosy was because of the concerted efforts made by a team of committed workers, she added.
She was speaking at a ceremony held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of MALC at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. MALC’ s CEO Mervyn Lobu and senior board members - Dr Mutahir Zi, Dr Ali Murtaza and Nisar Ahmed Malik - also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, a number of speakers appealed to the people to do away with stigma attached to the disease and tendency to ostracize the sufferer.

A large number of people belonging to different walks of life attended the ceremony.
