Karachi: Around 143 children under five-year age have died in last four months in district Tharparkar.
A report issued by the Sindh health department attributed the causes of the children’s death to malnutrition, starvation, premature births, drought and lack of health facilities in Tharparkar.
Giving details of the deaths of the children in last four months in Tharparkar, the report said that of the total 6,362 children, who were brought to out-patient departments of different hospitals in October 2015, 542 were admitted for treatment, while 31 of them died during treatment. In November 2015, 5,940 children with various peadiatric ailments were shifted to healthcare centres, out of which 458 were admitted for treatment, while 28 of them died due to multiple reasons.
It further stated that of the total 7,036 children, who were shifted to public sector hospitals in various areas of Thar in December 2015, 722 were admitted for treatment, while 44 of them died during treatment.
Similarly, malnutrition, starvation and lack health facilities claimed 40 lives in the first month of 2016, the report said, adding that of the total 28,000 children brought to different hospitals of Tharparkar in last four months 2,599 were admitted for treatment.
