SHCC imposes penalties of PKR 940,000 on quacks

KARACHI: The total amount of PKR 940,000 was imposed recently as punishments after cases were scrutinised in light of the escalating quackery in the province. 

The 8th committee meeting of the Directorate of Anti-Quackery, Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC), was held recently. 

Dr Khalid Hussain Shaikh, Convener and Committee Chair, and Dr Abdul Razzaq Shaikh, Member Committee, sanctioned the penalties of 32 quackery cases under section 9(2) of the SHCC ACT 2013. 6 cases from Larkana, 8 from Hyderabad, 4 from Mirpurkhas, 1 from Sukkur, 1 from Shaheed Benazir Abad and 12 from Karachi were included. 

It was decided in the meeting that contemporary problems need to be analysed while dealing with health care practitioners for the advancement of the healthcare system across the province. 

Dr Khalid Hussian Shaikh stated that the Anti-Quackery team would conduct strict follow-up visits against each penalty case to make sure that repeated wrongdoers are identified and strict measures could be taken against them. 

The Director, Anti –Quackery, briefed the committee about the gradual enhancement in the recoveries of fines. It was endorsed by the Directorate of Anti-Quackery to gradually impose heavier fines on the escalating number of illegally de-sealed locations. 

The meeting was attended by Dr Ahson Qavi Siddiqui, CEO, SHCC, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sheikh, Committee Member, Director Anti Quackery and his team.
