President, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Sindh, Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, said that the Sindh government must up-grade its ambulances services across the Sindh province, particularly in Karachi, on the patron international standard ambulance services to provide quality first-aid treatment facilities to patients by shifting them to health care centers.
He said rescue ambulances run by welfare organizations and the Sindh government are not equipped with proper first-aid treatment facilities and are just injured and dead body carrying vehicles. He said every ambulance should be equipped with an oxygen cylinder, life-saving medicines, and skilled medical staff.
He offered that the PMA is ready to train the staff and volunteers of both government and private ambulance services about the basics of first-aid treatment in order to provide quality services with skilled staff.
He said every teaching and public sector hospital of Karachi must be provided with state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with the most advanced life-saving facilities and trained staff to provide first-treatment facilities to patients in shifting to hospitals.
Dr Mirza said that the Sindh government and private rescue organizations have failed to play their due role following the monsoon rain flooding situation in Karachi and other parts of the province. He said planning and vision are needed to avert any emergencies or disasters in the future.
He said that the concerned authorities should make formulate a comprehensive strategy to prevent people from further disaster.
