Book Launch: Alzheimer’s Disease Caregivers Guidebook

KARACHI- Second edition of the book “Alzheimer’s Disease Caregivers Guidebook” was recently launched at a ceremony in a local hotel of Karachi, where eminent medical literature critics described the book as ‘a complete and comprehensive guide for caregivers managing Alzheimer’s patients’.

The book launching ceremony was organized by Alzheimer’s Pakistan Rawalpindi Chapter (APRC) in collaboration with Pharmatec Pakistan. Pharmatec is a dynamic privately owned pharmaceutical company involved in developing, manufacturing and supplying pharmaceutical generics and other value added products in the market.

Founder & General Secretary of Alzheimer's Pakistan Rawalpindi Chapter, Major (R) Mian Abdul Basit, stated that the book aimed to help caregivers and family members in managing Alzheimer’s patients in a better and much effective way. “APRC is fully committed to bringing relief to patients suffering from the disease, as well as their caregivers,” he said. The Rawalpindi Branch is working to raise awareness regarding Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, particularly in far flung northern areas of the country.

Major (R) Mian Abdul Basit, who has also authored the book, said that in the past caregivers would face grave hardships in dealing with Alzheimer’s patients due to unavailability of a proper guideline, but after the first edition of the book launched in 2010 they became able to manage such patients at home.



Addressing the gathering, Consultant of Psychology Prof Dr Mowadat Hussain Rana said, “My interest developed in Alzheimer during the third year of MBBS. Family members of Alzheimer patient go through grief, guilt, frustration, and depression; neither is it easy for caregivers to deal with such patients.” Alzheimer is not treatable but some medicines can improve overall patient’s condition, he added.

A large number of psychiatrists attended the book launching ceremony.
