Sindh appoints health officers to meet medico-legal requirements

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has posted three senior female medico-legal officers (WMLOs) and seven senior male medico-legal officers (MLOs) at the Police Surgeon Karachi.

According a notification, Dr Nasreen Bano (BPS-18), presently working at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre has been posted as Senior Woman Medical Legal Officer at the JPMC. Similarly, Dr Sangeeta Kumari working in the CHK is to be posted CHK as Sr WMLO. Dr Tasneem Akhter performing duties in the Singh Government Lyari General Hospital would be posted as Sr WMLO at the Lyari Hospital.

On the other hand, seven medico-legal officers (MLOs) have also been assigned to work as senior medical legal officers in the medico-legal centre of the Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital, Sindh Government New Karachi, Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad, Sindh Government Saudabad, and  Sindh Government Korangi-5.

Karachi Police Surgeon, Dr Hamid Z Jilani, said that the posting of WMLOs and MLOs in the medico-legal centres will help the early disposal of rape and gender based violence cases as well as those of assault, injury, death and more. He explained that ideally there should be at least four women and six male MLOs in every hospital.
