New security plan finalises for CHK

Karachi: A thorough security plan was recently formulated by a joint collaboration of the police, Rangers, hospital staff and civil administration. The plan aimed to prevent any unpleasant situation developing at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) in the future, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Sharjeel Kharal said recently.

He stated this while visiting the CHK and meeting doctors there. Accompanied by the Rangers wing commander, Deputy Commissioner-South, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) City and other officials, the DIG met CHK Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr Khadim Qureshi. The visit was in the wake of the recent violence at the hospital (resorted to allegedly by relatives over a Covid-19 patient’s death whose body was not handed over to them owing to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for such cases.

The DIG said that under the new security plan, an additional force would be deployed at the entry gate and emergency of the hospital. An anti-riot platoon would also be deployed there. Besides, video recording would be made with the help of CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras to meet any eventuality.

Communication with the hospital would be further enhanced to ensure security to doctors and other staff.

The MS said that at present 66 coronavirus patients were admitted to the hospital.

The DIG south also visited the nearby Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and met its additional director Prof Zafar and focal person Dr Fazal Akhtar. Mr Kharal assured them of every possible help for the security of doctors and other staff.
