Karachi heatwave claims 49 lives: ASH reports highest fatalities

KARACHI: The toll from heatstroke in Karachi continues to rise, with four additional deaths reported today, bringing the total fatalities to 49 between June 21 and July 1, 2024.

According to the Sindh Health Department, all four deaths occurred at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), which now accounts for the highest number of heatstroke fatalities at 23.

Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) has reported 18 deaths due to heatstroke, while Sindh Government Qatar Hospital Orangi Town has recorded three fatalities. Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has confirmed five deaths from heatstroke so far.

The heatwave has exacerbated conditions in the city, prompting health officials to issue warnings and advisories to prevent further casualties.
