LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has introduced a virtual blood bank facility on the Punjab Emergency Helpline 15, aiming to revolutionize blood donation and emergency response services across the province. This new service, which is currently being trialed, allows citizens to access the Safe City Emergency Blood Bank by simply calling 15 and pressing 4.
The innovative project was launched under the special direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with the goal of making blood donation more accessible and efficient. Upon receiving a call, a Safe City officer connects the caller with a registered blood donor from the database via a conference call, ensuring that blood is provided quickly and efficiently during emergencies.
The Safe City Blood Bank database is linked to various blood donor agencies, NGOs, and blood banks from colleges and universities. This collaboration allows citizens, students, and civil society members to easily register as blood donors by calling 15 or visiting the Safe City website. In addition, citizens can submit blood donation or request forms at the police facilitation counters set up in all government hospitals.
As part of the initiative, Punjab police officers and personnel have already registered as blood donors, with over 10,000 police personnel joining the cause. The PSCA urges all citizens to actively participate in this noble cause, donate blood, and help save lives.
This initiative is set to make a significant impact on the accessibility and availability of blood during emergencies, ensuring that no one is left without the vital resource they need.
