NICVD’s expansion plan may jeopardize - Employees refuse to vacate quarters

Karachi: Employees of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) residing in official quarters, located on the premises of the health facility, have demanded of the Sindh chief minister to direct hospital’s management to withdraw its notice whereby they have been asked to vacate their quarters.

The NICVD administration had asked the employees to vacate their quarters as the land where the quarters are located is to be used for carrying out some development projects as a part of the hospital’s expansion plan.

Getting perturbed over the decision, the occupants of the NICVD quarters on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the hospital’s main building to press the hospital’s management to either revoke its decision of getting their quarters vacated or provide them alternative accommodation.

Talking to media persons, protesters said that around 80 families are living in the quarters for the last so many years and it was not possible for them to vacate the quarters unless they are provided with some alternate accommodation.

“We are not against the hospital’s expansion plan, but we want that the management should first arrange alternative accommodation for us before starting construction work on the site of our existing homes,” they added.

NICVD’s executive director Prof Dr Nadeem Qamar was not available for his comment over the issue.
