MN ReportKarachi: Construction work on pediatrics cardiac surgery unit (PCSU) of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has been delaying for the last one year reportedly owing to its administration’s failure to send revised PC-1 of the project to Sindh health department.
According to an official of the health department, the foundation stone of a 200-bed pediatric cardiac surgery unit in the NICVD’s premises was laid down by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sept 26, 2014. The project was estimated to cost Rs1.8 billion and scheduled to be completed within two years.
However, work on the project was continuously being delayed as the incumbent executive director of the NICVD could not send revised PC-1 of the project to the Sindh planning and development.
He said that the management of the health facility also could not manage to get its employees’ houses, situated on the site of pediatric cardiac surgery unit, vacated despite a passage of two years since a decision was taken in this regard.
When contacted, NICVD’s executive director Prof Dr Nadeem Qamar said that the PC-1 of the project had been submitted to department concerned and hoped that work on the project would begin anytime soon.
