All public hospitals were put on high alert in the city in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram. The hospitals’ administrations have been directed to ensure the availability of doctors, medical staff, and medicines.
More than 300 beds have been arranged at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma to deal with emergencies. The security of these hospitals has also beefed up.
The heads of health facilities have been directed to ensure the presence of medical staff in the Accident and Emergency Department of the hospitals besides the availability of lifesaving drugs, beds, and functional ambulances.
Emergency Control Rooms have also been established in all major hospitals. An emergency has been declared in public sector hospitals of Karachi and will continue till 13th Muharram.
Doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff leaves have been cancelled in all public hospitals. Ambulance services have also been put on high alert. Medical camps have been established in different areas of the city to provide medical facilities to mourners and participants of the processions.
