HYDERABAD: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Shaheed Benazirabad organized an awareness seminar and rally on breast cancer and other women's health issues in collaboration with Noran Cancer Hospital, Nawabshah.
The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor, Engineer Professor Dr. Madad Ali Shah. Speaking at the occasion, cancer specialist Dr. Mark Laghari emphasized the importance of self-care, stating that individuals must take responsibility for their own health. He encouraged women not to panic about breast cancer, noting that regular self-examinations and timely mammograms are key to overcoming the disease.
Dr. Laghari highlighted that nearly 50% of women in the country depend on others due to a lack of awareness about the connection between their physical, mental, and emotional health. He urged the government to increase healthcare funding to provide free access to expensive diagnostic tests for underprivileged women.
He attributed the growing incidence of breast cancer in developing countries to the adoption of Western lifestyles. In response to student questions, Dr. Laghari advised women to avoid excessive makeup, steer clear of shampoos containing sulfur, adopt a simple lifestyle, eat fresh and wholesome food, incorporate light exercise, and manage stress and anger effectively.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Madad Ali Shah, along with Dr. Sadiq Hussain Nahrio, Marina Sherbaz Marri, and Dr. Sadra Amin, also addressed the seminar. They stressed the importance of such awareness programs in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Shah remarked that it is the state's responsibility to support women and emphasized the need for women to regularly evaluate their health and seek medical guidance. He warned that if left undiagnosed, breast cancer can spread to other parts of the body.
The seminar saw active participation from Noran Cancer Hospital Nawabshah Director Dr. Sadiq Hussain Nahrio, Program Organizer Marina Sherbaz Marri, female faculty members, and hundreds of students.
