KARACHI: The protest demonstration and boycott of education activities staged by the faculty of the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) entered its sixteenth day, demanding their delayed salaries for the past four months.
The faculty members, including assistant professors, professors, and associate professors, have been deprived of their salaries since May 2019. Their arrears and increments have also not been paid for the past several months.
The faculty members continued to boycott the OPDs of the KMDC Dental Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), as well as educational activities. The boycott of classes has put the future of 1600 students at stake while a score of patients with several dental problems has been denied treatment facilities for the past two weeks due to the ongoing doctors’ protest.
The protesters said that the KMDC has been facing acute financial crises. The Sindh government, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and other authorities concerned are not sincere towards resolving this matter.
They said that the protest demonstration and boycott of educational activities would continue until their pending salaries are released along with other allowances.
