PMDC bars GPs from aesthetic procedures, medicines

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has banned general practitioners (GPs) from engaging in aesthetic medicine and surgeries, making a relevant diploma or degree mandatory for such practice.

Aesthetic medicine specialists are responsible for conducting facial and body beautification surgeries, procedures, and hair transplants.

As per the announcement issued by PMDC, the practice of aesthetic medicine and related surgeries is restricted to doctors holding degree or diploma qualifications in the field.

The announcement clarifies that while MBBS and BDS degree holders have been practicing aesthetic medicine nationwide, only registered experts approved by PMDC will be permitted to conduct courses and workshops in aesthetic medicine.

Furthermore, the declaration specifies that aesthetic surgeries will exclusively be performed by experts sanctioned by PMDC.

In addition to these measures, healthcare commissioners have been directed to conduct inspections of hospitals and clinics offering aesthetic medicine and surgery services.
