KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced an increase in the budget for Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), now a 2200-bed facility, along with an increase in the number of postgraduate (PGs) seats to meet its requirements.
It transpired during a meeting between the CM and the JPMC Executive Director Prof Dr. Shahid Rasool, held at the CM House.
ON the occasion, Prof Shahid Rasool apprised the CM that though the JPMC has evolved into a 2,200-bed facility from a 16-bed hospital, it still faces a severe shortage of medical practitioners.
Taking notice, CM Shah allowed an increase in positions/seats for postgraduates by 200, raising the tally of PGs to 953 at the hospital.
During the meeting, Mr Shah directed Prof Shahid to establish a central medicine warehouse at JPMC, pledging additional funds in the Annual Development Plan (ADP) of the province for the purpose.
Prof Shahid sought the Sindh government’s assistance in constructing a parking plaza for JPMC, to which the CM assented, promising the inclusion of the schemes in the ADP.
The CM emphasized enhancing services, expanding the Outpatient Department (OPD), and endorsed the expansion of the JPMC's administration block.
Expressing gratitude, the JPMC executive director thanked the CM for his support and patronage.
