KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has achieved another milestone by performing the first “Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair” (TEVAR) on a 30-year-old man successfully.

A spokesperson of the NICVD noted that after a motorcycle accident, the patient was taken to the SMBB Trauma Centre Karachi, where he was told that he suffered a major aortic injury.

The patient was then referred to the NICVD, where he was treated using TEVAR instead of the conventional bypass, thanks to the joint efforts of interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and cardiac anesthesiologists.

Prof Tahir Saghir, Dr Rashid Aziz, Dr Naveedullah, and other doctors of the NICVD led the procedure.

The doctors said that the procedure had been performed successfully. The patient is in recovery and is expected to be discharged in a few days.
