Two new polio cases in Karachi bring national total to eight

Karachi: has reported two new cases of polio, bringing the total number of cases this year to eight nationwide. According to the National Institute of Health, these cases originate from Sindh and Balochistan. A two-year-old child from Qila Abdullah and a three-year-old girl from Kemari, Karachi, have tested positive for the poliovirus.

Both children began showing signs of disability on May 22 and June 3 respectively. The National Institute of Health further reveals that six out of the eight cases reported this year have been from Balochistan.

In response to these developments, the National Health Organization has announced the commencement of an anti-polio campaign in 41 districts from July 1. Over 9 million children are expected to receive anti-polio drops during this campaign.
