KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences has taken the initiative towards provision of safe blood products to the needy patients. Under this initiative, Safe Blood Transfusion Services have been initiated with the strong pillars of voluntary blood donation, training of human resource, developing service delivery in blood banking and transplantation laboratory services with continuous education and training in transfusion and transplantation sciences.
The Safe Blood Transfusion Services Programme of Dow University has successfully launched Dow Safe Blood Donors Club 25 and has enrolled and educated various government and private educational institutes, organizations, industries and private establishments about voluntary blood donation and awareness regarding diseases such as hepatitis that are transmitted through blood. There is an immense need for sensitizing the public on the subject to raise voluntary non-remunerated blood donation rate across Pakistan. The student motivational leaders of Club-25 are actively working for this cause.
To commemorate World Blood Donor’s Day, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) conducted donor education and motivation activities along with various other educational and technical activities. A Blood Donation Awareness Fun Fair for students and their families was held recently at Cinepax Auditorium in which 50% discounted tickets were offered to the donor students, staff and their families. Extreme enthusiasm was seen among the students and their families during this activity. The program was inaugurated with an information session, followed by an exciting movie show. DUHS Blood Donor motivational leaders had arranged numerous stalls and actively distributed information material/ membership forms to the visitors. The colorful event highlighted the message of World Blood Donor’s Day, 2014. The DUHS Safe blood Transfusion Services Team thanked the Management of Cinepax for their coordination in this noble cause.
