KARACHI: An innovative self-testing device for patients on warfarin therapy has been launched in Pakistan, allowing them to quickly check their international normalized ratio (INR) values and share the results with their consultant via their smartphone or smartphone any other computing device for quick and efficient therapy management.

Roche Pakistan's CoaguChek INRange, which was released in collaboration with Dawaai.pk, allows consumers to acquire their results in only one minute using a single drop of blood.

Patients, particularly the bedridden and elderly, would benefit from this technology because they would no longer have to go to the laboratory for testing on a regular basis, followed by visits to their doctors.

Regular monitoring of the anticoagulant effect is required, according to a study published in the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health USA, by Australian Point of Care Practitioners and Integrated Cardiovascular Clinical Network, Country Health South Australia. Evidence suggests that patients who self-monitor using point-of-care testing have better outcomes than other patients. Patients could conduct the test at their leisure, wherever they are, with this approach.

This solution is available countrywide at dawaai.pk, where patients can be guided and enlightened by trained pharmacists and consultants.
