KARACHI- According to a new study conducted in China, people who consume eggs on a regular basis may have a decreased risk of suffering from heart diseases, with almost 18% of lower risk of dying due to cardiovascular problems.

Earlier, doctors used to warn patients against an increased intake of eggs, by keeping in mind the high amount of cholesterol present in it, despite the presence of high quality protein and other nutritional components.

However, co-Author of this study, Canqing Yu, mentioned that the existing studies on the association between egg and cardiovascular diseases are controversial due to small sample sizes and limited information, with huge differences in dietary intake, overall lifestyle and their pattern of diseases.

To achieve clarity, Yu and his colleagues decided to investigate about eggs and their association with cardiovascular disease.

As per results, it was revealed that slightly more than 13% of adults, ranging from 30 to 79 years of age informed that they ate 1 egg per day, while just over 9% reported to never or rarely enjoy eating eggs. Nearly all these participants agreed to having chicken eggs.

Over nine years, the research team tracked the selected group. They focused on major coronary events during the study. According to Yu, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in China, which accounted for half of the total mortality rate. He stated that “Stroke, including hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, is the first cause of premature death, followed by ischemic heart disease.”

Participants who ate up to 1 egg daily had a 26% lower risk of hemorrhagic stroke. Additionally, egg eaters also displayed a 28% lower risk of dying from this type of stroke. It was also revealed that the egg eaters also showed a 12% reduced risk of ischemic heart disease.

Based on these results, Canqing Yu mentioned that, eating eggs in moderation is associated with a lower incidence of cardiovascular diseases, especially hemorrhagic stroke.
