Experimental drug can delay, not prevent, Type 1 Diabetes

KARACHI: A new drug, that has recently been doing the rounds on social media, Tzeild, is rumored to be the miracle drug that prevents Type 1 Diabetes. However, these claims have been proven false.

This clinical drug, now approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), USA, reportedly delays the diagnosis instead of preventing it. Clinical trials have approved the drug as one that delays the onset of Type 1 Diabetes.

A press release, announcing the launch of the drug stated "Today, the US Food and Drug Administration approved Tzield injection to delay the onset of stage 3 type 1 diabetes in adults and pediatric patients eight years and older who currently have stage 2 type 1 diabetes".

According to the FDA regulations, Tzeild (Teplizumab) shall be administered as an intravenous injection, once daily for 14 days to patients suffering from stage 2 Type 1 Diabetes.
