ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) recently permitted a booster shot of COVID-19 vaccines for immunocompromised individuals, healthcare personnel, and people over 50 years of age.

The decision was taken while deliberating on a new variant of COVID-19, Omicron. However, the statement issued by the NCOC did not stipulate which COVID-19 vaccine would be administered as a booster.

Though the announcement circulated by the NCOC did not comment which COVID-19 vaccine would be administered as booster shots, it did say that the shots would be free and administered six months after the last vaccine dose.

Moreover, the epidemic curve chart, strategy for vaccination and frequency of disease across Pakistan was discussed in a meeting.

Consequently, the NCOC decided to take strict action to implement the policy of obligatory vaccination and instructed the provinces and relevant agencies to implement a zero-tolerance policy.
