KARACHI: As many as 1,000 medical officers (MO’s) will be immediately promoted by the Sindh government, with issuance of a notification in this regard within a week, while more promotions will follow new recruitments.
This was decided at a meeting between a delegation of the Sindh Young Doctors Association (YDA) and the provincial health minister held recently to discuss critical issues concerning young doctors and hospital facilities.
The minister pledged to the YDA team that there will be immediate promotions of 1,000 medical officers in BPS-17, with notifications expected to be issued within a week, and additional promotions planned to follow new recruitment processes.
The meeting decided that finalization of the remaining Covid doctors' appointments will take place once the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) registration issues are resolved, and these doctors are encouraged to complete their house jobs and documentation.
It was also agreed that ‘Health Professional Allowance’ equivalent to one basic pay will be granted to doctors, with the proposal's work starting immediately.
Furthermore, modular theatres will be constructed in Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and other tertiary care hospitals, with primary and secondary care hospitals being affiliated with nearby tertiary care hospitals to enhance healthcare facilities.
It was decided that a comprehensive health insurance policy for all employees would also be implemented.
The two sides agreed that the MOs currently under training will continue their programs, and modifications will be made to the management cadre.
The minister said the request for increased Dental SNE has already been initiated for approval.
This meeting is a significant step towards addressing young doctors' concerns and improving the Sindh healthcare system.
