Liver transplantation at DUHS

KARACHI - The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) where liver transplantation will begin from August will become the third public sector institute to have this facility.

This was stated at a public awareness seminar organized by National Institute of Liver & GI Diseases (NILGID), DUHS to mark the World Hepatitis Day-2015. The seminar was followed by a walk while a free hepatitis screening camp was also set up at DUHS Ojha campus.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Prof Rana Qamar Masood, Prof Hafeezullah Shaikh, Dr Tayyab Usmani, Dr Sabihta Shaikh, Dr Shams Nadeem Alam.

Director of NILGID Dr Rana Qamar Masood highlighted the importance of screening blood properly for these viruses and taking measures for proper sterilization during dental and surgical procedures.

Experts were of the opinion that diagnosing the disease at early stage and proper treatment reduces the disease by 90 per cent.
