KARACHI: The deadly Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) recently claimed the life of a woman at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Executive Director, JPMC, Dr Seemin Jamali, noted that a woman suffering from the Congo fever had died during treatment at the hospital. She informed that the woman was brought to the JPMC from Umerkot, Tharparkar, a few days ago for treatment but succumbed to the ailment.

She further informed that a total of two patients were reported at the JPMC with Congo fever-related complications, out of which one died and the other recovered from the disease.

Congo fever is a fatal viral disease that spreads via a tick bite, which is a parasite that lives in the blood of animals. People who deal with cattle and livestock mainly contract Congo fever.

Primary symptoms of the Congo virus include back, joint, and abdominal pain, high-grade fever, and bleeding from different parts of the body.
